As we see more large brands/companies enter the crypto space, it is always an excellent sign for the future of cryptocurrency. That being said, this will be a weekly series that accumulates a variety of crypto and NFT related news that you may or may not have heard about, let’s get started!

Walmart Entering the Metaverse

There has been recent talk of Walmart potentially making their own token as well as a collection of NFTs. This is very exciting news and hopefully we’ll see more retailers follow in their footsteps!

Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion for Metaverse Plans

This was all over the news being such a crazy purchase. Microsoft is making huge strides into their own development of the metaverse. It was stated that, this acquisition

will play a key role in the development of metaverse platforms”

Coinbase x Mastercard Partnership

Buying NFTs is about to get a whole lot easier. Coinbase is teaming up with Mastercard to “classify NFTs as ‘digital goods’, allowing a broader group of consumers to purchase NFTs.” This will make purchasing NFTs extremely easy for beginners which is great news as the community grows.

Gucci x Superplastics NFTs

Now we’re seeing the popular Italian luxury brand, Gucci, dive into the NFT space. This news caught eyes of many and I expect this collection to be extremely sought after. Releasing February 1st, it has been stated that the release will consist of ten NFT artworks accompanied by a limited edition handmade ceramic sculpture made in Italy. Exciting, exciting news.

Meta (Facebook) Planning on Starting Their Own NFT Marketplace?

Sources has said that Meta is currently planning on making their own marketplace for NFTs. Expect more information regarding this to come out in the next months. This could lead to mass adoption of NFTs in popular social media sites like Instagram and Facebook. Will this be the marketplace to dethrone Opensea? We will see.

NFT Profile Pictures on Twitter

If you’re a normal user on Twitter, you may have seen this trending on Twitter a few days ago. Twitter has now allowed users to add their own NFTs and use them as their profile picture in the latest Twitter Blue update. Users will now appear with a Hexagon shaped profile rather than the traditional circle.

Mercedes-Benz Entering the NFT Space

Luxury German Auto Manufacture, Mercedes, is now entering the NFT Space as well.

They are actually releasing their NFTs via Nifty Gateway today 1/23 at 6:30pm EST via raffle. If this was something of interest I would suggest checking that out!
